London Fashion Week Spring '09: Luella Bartley

Bold colours, tweed, lace, and frills. Pearl-chained handbags, net veils, and tulle gloves. All of these elements were the basis of Luella's Spring '09 collection. The boxy suits were reminiscent to what the elderly English women would have worn to high tea, but with a twist.

"I wanted it to be a proper, ladylike character—but a bit psychedelic," designer Luella Bartley told style.com. "And I wanted color, but in a sort of sick way. When I saw it all lined up, I thought, Ew! Can we do this?"

Looks like they could. Although the collection had the potential to be outrageously tacky, it somehow still worked.
