The Costume Institute to exhibit McQueen's work

Fans of Alexander McQueen will now be able to see his work up-close, thanks to a new exhibition dedicated to the late designer.

The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will stage "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" next spring. It will feature McQueen's work over a course of almost two decades, beginning with his graduate collection at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, and ending with his final collection before the designer took his own life in February.

“After McQueen’s death, we wanted to stage an exhibition to celebrate his legacy in fashion history and his contributions to fashion,” said Andrew Bolton, who is spearheading this exhibit, with the support of curator in charge Harold Koda. “McQueen had such a singular voice and he was a remarkable technician.

“He really was one of the most provocative voices of the past 30 years in fashion,” Bolton added. “His catwalk presentations were outstanding and straddle art and fashion. We want to get across two elements — the spectacle of the runway presentations and the beauty of his craftsmanship.”

The show will feature roughly 100 pieces, including borrowed pieces from personal collections, including that of the late Isabella Blow, and Daphne Guinness.

The exhibit will launch with the annual Costume Institute Benefit gala on May 2, and will run from May 4 to July 31.

Daphne Guinness buys Isabella Blow's fashion collection

Daphne Guinness has even more exquisite clothing to add to her already-extravagant collection.

The heiress has purchased the late Isabella Blow's fashion collection in its entirety through a private sale at Christie’s in London.

Guinness obtained clothing and photography, including 90 Alexander McQueen outfits, several early dresses by John Galliano, and over 50 hats by Philip Treacy.

The collection was originally planned  to go up for auction in September, with each piece being sold separately.

It has been said that Guinness wishes to keep the collection together.

“It’s Issy – it’s her D.N.A, it should not be scattered to the four winds,” Guinness stated.

Hopefully Guinness will be sharing Isabella Blow's collection with the rest of the world, especially since her own wardrobe will be put on display at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology next September.

Alexander McQueen laid to rest today

A private funeral service took place today for designer Alexander McQueen, who was found hanged in his London apartment two weeks ago.

The ceremony was intimate, with only McQueen's family and closest friends in attendance, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and Daphne Guinness.

A larger memorial service open to McQueen fans is expected to take place later this year, but no date or venue has been confirmed.

Gucci Group president and CEO Robert Polet announced last week that McQueen's business will go on, and that the house will show the Fall 2010 collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 9th.

Daphne Guinness wears the Alexander McQueen armadillo boot

Last night, fashion icon Daphne Guinness, sported the Alexander McQueen armadillo boot to a party in honour of Francois Nars' new book and the 15th Anniversary of Nars.

The boots stand at ten-inches high, and have caused a frenzy in the fashion world after they premiered at McQueen's Spring 2010 show, and later in Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video.

Apparently, shoe-loving women have been phoning McQueen to purchase these "alien" booties.

"We've had lots of people showing great interest in the show shoes," said a McQueen spokesperson, who also reported that some of the callers are looking to buy them as "art pieces."

The McQueen camp is contemplating on auctioning off the sample shoes for charity.

Guinness, is known for her extravagant shoe collection, so it's no surprise that she's wearing them.
