Alicia Keys is launching a jewelry collection

Alicia Keys is dipping her toes into the design pool.

But before you start groaning about yet ANOTHER celebrity trying to get into fashion, give Keys a chance. Her venture actually looks quite promising.

The 12-time Grammy Award-winning songstress is launching a jewelry collection with Canadian jewelry designer Gisèle Theriault.

The collection, called The Barber's Daughter, will be introduced at a temporary shop at Collette Blanchard Gallery on 26 Clinton Street in Lower Manhattan. The store will open only on Monday and Tuesday to generate buzz for the brand’s fall 2010 launch.

The Barber's Daughter is comprised of sterling silver and gemstone pieces, each inscribed with poetry and prayers of Masaru Emoto, the author of “The Hidden Messages in the Water.” The line will retail from $85 to $2,500 and will also be sold on thebarbersdaughter.com.

Keys apparently met Theriault through her bandmembers, who were buying Theriault's pieces backstage at Keys' shows. Having always been interested in designing accessories, Keys was intrigued.

“I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me,” said Keys. “I knew at that moment for the first time, that through a whole other medium I would be able to spread inspiration and that’s what got me started.”

Her mission is to “give people beautiful, unique pieces with messages that ignite them to find the best within.”

The name of the line was inspired by Theriault’s childhood in the small town of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

“A name meant nothing,” said Theriault. “Whose child you were was everything.”

On her partnership with Keys, Theriault said, “When it comes to creating, whatever the medium, around issues of the heart and living a life that aims to give back, we found a beautiful harmony with each other.”

Check out some of the pieces below.

Michelle Tratchenberg inks a deal with Coach

Gossip Girl's Michelle Trachtenberg has just landed a deal with Coach to design a jewelry collection for their youthful and spirited Poppy line.

Trachteberg will apply her tough-girl meets sugary-sweet vibe to design the collection.

The costume jewelry line will hit stores this spring, and will be filled with colourful crystals, faux pearls, and intricate hardware.

I wonder how this will turn out!

Do you think Michelle Trachtenberg is fit for the job? Or does this collaboration seem kind of random?

True Blood jewellery line

Vampires are so popular right now, it's no wonder everyone's trying to milk the trend while they can.

First it was the Twilight-inspired perfume, then the Jules Smith New Moon jewellery line.

Now, a True Blood jewellery collection is being released.

It's much classier than its predecessors, and includes rings, layered chains, and earrings.
The True Blood Jewelry Collection was inspired by some of the most provocative aspects of the groundbreaking HBO original series "True Blood." With vampires as the inspiration, luminous red rubies and cold steel have fused seamlessly to represent the dark, bloody sensuality that millions of viewers have thirsted for week after week. The True Blood Jewelry Collection has been influenced by many aspects of the infinite lives of vampires: from the blood they drink, to the seductive nature of being 'glamoured'; while a patented fang-like clasp holds many of the pieces together. But this collection isn't just about vampires and evil. After watching the show you will understand that the jewelry was also inspired by their ability to love, the peace they fight for and their hope for a better future.

Prices range from $59 - $1,295.00.

Will you be buying True Blood-inspired jewellery?

Double Ring

When reading FabSugar's post on the double ring trend, I fell in love with this Erica Anenberg snake ring (shown above).

I have a soft spot for animal rings, but since I can't afford the Cartier Panther ring, one of Rachel Zoe's everyday pieces, this snake ring will have to do.

Besides, snakes are so much cooler than panthers, and it is my Chinese Zodiac Sign.

Birthday present anyone?
