Spotted: John Mayer and Colbie Caillat at the Molson Amph
Last night, John Mayer and Colbie Caillat stopped in Toronto at the Molson Amphitheatre as part of their Summer Tour 2008. The tour was sponsored by Blackberry (hence the photo above!)
I managed to get tickets a few months ago, but for the price we paid ($84!), the venue was pretty disappointing. The Molson Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue, and although we were under the rooftop, it just seemed like we were at the Harbourfront listening to a random musician.
It was really hard to enjoy Colbie's performance as people kept on getting up and getting food and beer, and coming back, and chatting really loudly, without really paying attention to her at all. However, when I managed to ignore the distractions, she was amazing. She seems so sweet and down-to-earth, and her vocals were so soothing. She really gave a great performance, and it was disappointing that she didn't seem too appreciated.
When John Mayer came out, the crowd seemed to settle down and focus on him. Although his vocals were very good and his guitar skills brilliant, he seemed to have an unusual song choice for his set. I didn't know very many of his songs in the beginning, but once he got into his more popular songs, I began to enjoy myself.
My favourite part was when he was singing "No Such Thing," he suddenly broke out into "Why Georgia," and the crowd went wild. Also, who could forget his song dedicated to the "guys in yellow shirts saying Security?"
Overall, it was a fairly good concert, but I will most likely never attend another concert at that venue.
